The word Zakat originates from the verb zaka, meaning to grow, increase and purify. When used in the context of a person, zaka means to improve or to become better. Consequently, Zakat means blessing, growth, cleanliness and betterment. Zakat cultivates for ongoing connection to God.

Importance Of Feeding The Poor And Helping The Destitute

The Prophet Muhammad sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam said:

“A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim.”

Volume #, Book 3, No. 622, Bukhari

Islam is a religion unlike any other. It gives people numerous rights, always giving importance to the well being of not only Muslims, but Non-Muslims too. It’s about spreading love and kindness and gentleness and helping each other- about living a life that appeals to your soul, makes the people around you happy, and brings you closer to Almighty Allah. A true religion of peace.

The Homeless Need Your Help

The Charity You Give

Narrated by Abdullah ibn ash-Shikhkhir

Allah’s Messenger (saws) said: ‘The son of Adam claims: ‘My wealth! My wealth!…..  O son of Adam, is there anything as your belonging except that which you consumed, which you utilized, or which you wore and then it was worn out, or that which you gave as charity and sent it forward (for the life Hereafter)?

(Hadith 7061, Book; Sahih Muslim)

Even if we have all the wealth of the worlds, it will be of no use to us- except for the money we used and gave. And only the charity we give from our wealth will help us in the Afterlife.

We Still Have A Chance

‘Spend (in the Cause of Allah) from the provisions that We have given you before death should come to any of you and then he should say, “O my Lord, why did You not reprieve me awhile that I should have given in charity and become of the righteous.” But Allah does not at all reprieve a person when his term comes to an end, and Allah is well aware of what you all do.

-The Holy Quran, Surah Munafiqun, Verse no.10

We will regret not helping them, not taking care of them when we had the chance. But we have time now. There are still breaths left in our lungs, still the power to beat left in our heart, still a soul in our bodies. So while we have the chance- while we are alive- we need to help and feed those who are desperately in need. So that we can go back to our Lord, Allah Almighty, happy knowing that we spent the wealth He granted to please Him- to serve and help His servants.

Maqaame Ibrahim is on a mission to help DC’s homeless by arranging food for them. Seize your chance, and donate to our cause to help the poor and hungry.

Suffering Should Not Be Ignored

Allah Almighty will say on the Day of Resurrection:

‘O son of Adam, I asked you for food and you fed Me not.

He will say: O Lord, and how should I feed You when You are the Lord of the worlds?

He will say: Did you not know that My servant So-and-so asked you for food and you fed him not? Did you not know that had you fed him you would surely have found that (the reward for doing so) with Me?

O son of Adam, I asked you to give Me to drink and you gave Me not to drink

. He will say: O Lord, how should I give You to drink when You are the Lord of the worlds?

He will say: My servant So-and-so asked you to give him to drink and you gave him not to drink. Had you given him to drink you would have surely found that with Me.’

(The Forty Hadith Qudsi, 18)

People are suffering. They are injured, ill, panting from thirst and dying from hunger. They need help, but we choose to turn a blind eye to their suffering. Having a comfortable life makes us ignore the people in need; it makes us oblivious to them.

It seem like mere ignorance to us, but to the people suffering, it is cruelty.

The money we spend in indulgence could be used to save lives, to give blankets and coats, to block the harsh winter, to give proper education to innocent children.

Our ignorance will not go unanswered. We need to extend a helping hand, and we need to do it now.

Our Charity Does Not Go Unrewarded

“Those who in charity spend of their goods by night and by day, in secret and in public, have their reward with their Lord: on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve”

-The Holy Quran, Surah Baqarah, Verse; 247

Our kindness- the helping hand we extend in secret- does not go unrewarded. It does not go forgotten. Allah Almighty is the most Merciful and the all knowing. He returns what we give to his servants- and He returns so much more than we ever gave.

“Verily those who give alms–be they men or women, -and give Allah a beautiful loan shall be repaid after increasing it many times; and theirs shall be a generous reward’

-The Holy Quran, Surah Al-Hadid, Verse; 18

So why not donate in the name of the Lord that is the most compassionate- the Mighty Lord that takes care for us so much?

With the faith of Islam and the love of Allah and His creations in your heart, give. Give, give and keep on giving. Give until your heart and soul are alight with joy.

Give to charity to help us make sure that the sweet and innocent children get the things they deserve to have.

The Innocent Children

There are so many children around the world immersed in poverty, hardships weighing down on them a little too early. There are countless innocent and poor children- sleeping at night with empty stomachs, with nothing more than thin layers of clothes to shield them from the cold.

We at Maaqame Ibrahim make sure that your donations are justly used to help the children, the poor and the destitute. Donate to us, and we will make sure that your helping hand reaches the people in need.

The Messenger sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam said:

“Allah said, ‘O son of Adam! Spend, and I shall spend on you.”

(Sahih Bukhari, 5352)

May Allah Give Us The Will To Feed The Poor And Help Others.
